Ennett, Kovar Win Bronze
Local athletes representing Cobra’s Taekwondo Training Centre and Sarnia Olympic Taekwondo Academy PCT had athletes competing at the 2016 Canada Open held in Montreal, Quebec last weekend.
Competing were Urvashi Thongham in the senior female -46kg weight class, Danielle Ennett senior female -67kg weight class, and Akshay Thongham in the junior male -55kg weight category.
Local athlete Keegan Kovar won his quarter final match by point gap 14-2 against a player from Minnesota, USA on the second day of competition. Kovar then met up with the previous US Open champion and eventual gold medalist of the Canada Open from New Jersey in the semis, losing the match, but coming out with the bronze.
Danielle Ennett won her first match in juniors 4-3 and won the bronze, being defeated in the semis against a fighter from Mexico, by a score of 5-2. The Mexican competitor went on to win gold in this division.
