Dresden Kings rookie forward Kyle Dawson took home some hardware Monday night, as he was named the Great Lakes Junior C Rookie of the Year.

The Florence product had an incredible run this season scoring 21 goals and 18 assists for 39 points in 39 games this season. His totals were good for 11th overall in league scoring.

This is the second straight season a Dresden Kings player has been named rookie of the year after Ross Krieger won the honour last season. Dawson also played a handful of Junior B games this season for the St. Thomas Stars.

Wheatley’s Brett Bowman was honoured as the leagues leading scorer at the award banquet. Bowman, the Wheatley Sharks’ captain had 21 goals and 41 assists for 62 points in 38 games.

Blenheim’s Bill Saunders received the Don Brooker Award as volunteer of the year.

From outside Chatham-Kent, Essex 73s netminder Trevor Wheaton was named league MVP, and also coupled for the Team GAA, and had the league’s best individual GAA.

Alvinston’s Clint Rose was named Best Defenseman for the third straight season, while Alvinston’s Kole Keating was named the leagues most dedicated player.
