The Chatham Y Pool Sharks’ Madison Broad had a golden opening day at the Eastern National Championships in Montreal

Wallaceburg’s Madison Broad had a golden debut at the Eastern National Swimming Championships in Montreal.

The Chatham ‘Y’ Pool Shark turned heads with a personal best time of 1:03.75 in the qualifying round of the 100 metre backstroke. The time was not only a personal best, but the best in the entire meet, placing Broad in first place for the finals. Madison followed up even stronger, posting another personal best time of 1:02.13 to capture gold in the finals.

Maddy finished 10th in the 50 metre butterfly and competes on Friday in the 100 metre butterfly and 50 metre backstroke events.

Chatham’s Genevieve Sasseville reportedly finished 34th in the 100 metre backstroke.

Brendan VanHerk of the Blenheim Blast swim team placed 18th in the nation in 200 metre Free and 19th in the 100 metre backstroke.
