Wallaceburg Lakers Hand Out Hardware
The Wallaceburg Lakers held their year-end awards banquet recently, recognizing the hard work and dedication from their roster, executive and volunteers through another tough on-ice stretch.
Lakers netminder George Hill was awarded the Most Valuable Player award. Despite some tough numbers, the Brooklyn, Michigan native was steady between the pipes for Wallaceburg, often facing a shooting gallery, while keeping his composure and becoming a locker room leader.
Justin Melo was named Most Dedicated Player and Rookie of the Year honours went to Brett Farr. Alex Carriere was named most sportsmanlike player.
The Tristan Carswell Heart and Soul award was won by Trevor Waller. Rookie d-man Dak Johnstone was named the most improved player
Long-time Lakers volunteer and assistant equipment manager Norm O’Dell was rightfully recognized for his dedication to the organization and its players.
In a statement posted online the Lakers said O’Dell has”put his heart and soul into making sure the Wallaceburg Laker players have all of the essential tools they need before they step foot on the ice, during the games and even collect items after the game before boarding the bus for the return ride home.”
Norm was presented with a Lakers coat and jersey.
Executive members Shane Pollock and Mary McLaughlin were recognized for their hard work in organizing fundraisers, bingos and volunteer hours with the Director’s Award for Volunteer Involvement.
Lakers executive and coaching staff extend congratulations and best of luck to their lone overage player from this past season, Alex Ritchie. Ritchie scored two goals and added two assists in his last Junior C game.
