Wallaceburg’s Madison Broad is continuing to excel in her biggest year to date.

The 15-year-old Chatham ‘Y’ Pool Shark is currently competing – and excelling – in the Orlando Grand Prix Arena Pro Swim Series, swimming with and against World and Olympic champions.

In an Olympic year, with the best talent on hand, Broad won the ‘B’ finals of the women’s 100 metre backstroke on Friday night, with a personal best time 1:01:97. Broad’s time was the sixth best in the entire event, which was won by U.S. Olympic gold medalist Missy Franklin with a winning time of 59.80 seconds, a mere 2 seconds ahead of C-K’s swim shark. Broad was seeded 16th coming into the event and demolished all expectations.

Broad will also move into the finals of the 200 backstroke after another personal best time of 2:17:54 in the qualifying heat. Broad will head into the 200 finals seeded 9th overall, first in the ‘B’ division.

You can live stream the event at the link below. The finals, including Broad in the 200 metre backstroke, open at 6 pm Saturday (Mar 5).
