Kevin Grootenboer from Chatham, Ontario, was recently selected to play in the 2016 ACHA Division III All-Star Challenge for the Mid-America Collegiate Hockey Association (MACHA) Conference team.

Grootenboer put up an average of just over two points per game over the twenty games he played for the Dordt College Blades, leading the team in scoring with 41 points. His totals were second in the MACHA Silver Division despite missing the first five games of the hockey season due to his obligations with the Dordt men’s varsity soccer team.

Grootenboer attends Dordt College in Sioux Center, Iowa and is completing his senior year of a four year Physical Therapy degree.

He was selected for the All-Star game alongside teammate Lucas Koomans

“Both Kevin and Lucas are very deserving of this honor,” said Dordt College hockey coach John Langeraap in a school news release. “Kevin was tied for second highest regular season points in the MACHA Silver Division, even with missing the first part of the season because of soccer.”

Grootenboer played six years in the Chatham Minor Hockey Association.

Grootenboer was recruited out of Chatham Christian High School to Dordt College in Sioux Center, Iowa on scholarship for soccer, playing four seasons for the Defenders. Grootenboer also plays soccer locally for the Chatham Express men’s soccer team competing in the Western Ontario Soccer League (WOSL) Premier Division.
