Many local residents waited by TV screens yesterday on baited breath as the ‘sweet 16’ for Team Canada at the World Cup of Hockey was revealed.

Noticeable across Chatham-Kent, was one missing name: TJ Brodie.

The Calgary Flames defenceman has gained praise throughout the league this season, but was left off of the Team Canada roster… for now.

Among the 16 named players, nine forwards, four defencemen and three goaltenders were announced. More additions are obviously on the way, including P.K. Subban one would imagine. Leaving two to three openings for d-men like Brodie, only one on the active ‘playing’ roster.

Current defencemen on the roster include Drew Doughty, Duncan Keith, Marc-Edouard Vlasic and Shea Weber.

Brodie has 4 goals and 36 assists with a +13 and only 14 penalty minutes while averaging 25 minutes and 46 seconds of ice time per game
