WATCH: Madison Broad Wins 100M Back “B” Finals and 200M Back “B” Heat
Wallaceburg’s Madison Broad is a part of the conversation.
Exceeding all expectations at the two biggest meets of her swim career, including 2 gold medals at the Speedo Eastern National Championships and now, two ‘B’ final appearances at the Orlando Grand Prix Pro Swim Series, Broad is the talk of the pool deck.
A possible future Olympian seems to call Chatham-Kent home.
The Chatham ‘Y’ Pool Shark proved she belongs in her first international event while rubbing shoulders with World and Olympic champion swimmers, including Michael Phelps and Missy Franklin.
Broad finished 12th in the 200 metre backstroke, after winning her heat to open the ‘B’ finals in 9th position with a personal best time of 2:17:54.
Maddy won the ‘B’ finals of the women’s 100 metre backstroke, with a personal best time 1:01:97. Broad’s time was the sixth best in the entire event, which was won by U.S. Olympic gold medalist Missy Franklin with a winning time of 59.80 seconds, a mere 2 seconds ahead of C-K’s swim shark. Broad was seeded 16th coming into the event and demolished all expectations.
