Wallaceburg’s Madison Broad prepares for her prelim swim in the women’s 100 metre Rio Olympic time trials in Scarborough

Wallaceburg’s Madison Broad finished 22nd in the 100 metre backstroke prelims at the Rio Olympic Time Trials in Scarborough on Wednesday afternoon.

Her swim was good enough to move her into the “B” finals of the qualifier.

The 15-year-old Chatham ‘Y’ Pool Shark finished the 100m with a time of 1:03.33 – nearly one and a half seconds behind her personal best 1:01.97, posted at the Orlando Grand Prix in March.

Kylie Masse placed first in the even’s prelims with a new Canadian record of 59.17 seconds.

Madison has had a break-out year with phenomenal results at the Speedo Eastern National Champions and the Orlando Grand Prix.

Maddy swims in the 200m backstroke preliminaries on Sunday.
