The ESPC Patriotes of Pain Court were the school to beat Thursday at the SWOSSAA Junior badminton championships, capturing the SWOSSAA team title.

Pain Court finished the day with 24 team points, paced by two division championships.

Ryen Stevens and Aidan Lachine captured the boys doubles champioship, beating a team from Tecumseh Vista, who was second overall in the team totals.

Also beating a Tecumseh Vista team in the final were Pain Court’s Aubrey Michaud and Cameron Wheeler, who won the mixed doubles championship.

Pain Court also had two second place finishes, as Rachel Benn lost the girls singles final to a Windsor Massey player, while Rain Avey and Autumn Hamilton lost to Leamington’s top pair.

The top local finisher in the boys singles division was Chatham-Kent Secondary School’s Grant Spence, who finished third. Windsor Ste. Cecile’s Wilson Liu won the championship match.

There is no OFSAA for Junior players, meaning Thursday’s SWOSSAA concludes the Junior badminton season.
