Airhawks Win Provincial Title
In pool play, Wallaceburg opened with a win over the Ottawa Shooting Stars 49-38. Logan Kucera paced the scoring with 17, while sister Jana Kucera had 14. Also chipping in were Ally Sanderson (9), Shae Denys (5), and Kirsten Zelina and Jaimi Chauvin both with 2.
Facing Nepean next, Wallaceburg cruised to a 49-27 win. Logan Kucera again topped all scorers with 22, followed by Jana Kucera with 11, Shae Denys with 10, and Kaitlyn Quinlan, Jaimi Chauvin and Kirsten Zelina all with 2.
Being ranked first after pool play, Wallaceburg received a bye directly to the semi-finals where they would face the Huntsville Hurricanes, crushing their opponents 56-27. Logan Kucera continued her strong play scoring 20, Ally Sanderson had 12, Shae Denys 6, Jana Kucera 5, Jade Johnston 4, Emily MacLachlan and Jaimi Chauvin both with 3, and Kirsten Zelina with 2, and Kaitlyn Quinlan with 1.
In the gold medal game, the team, which included a mix of WDSS, LKCS, and CKSS high school athletes, had their toughest test of the weekend, facing the Ottawa Shooting Stars, but eventually taking a 53-47 victory, and the gold medal. Logan Kucera was again her team’s leading scorer, this time sinking 13. Shae Denys added 11, Jana Kucera scored 10, Jaimi Chauvin had 7, and Ally Sanderson (6), Kirsten Zelina (5), and Jade Johnston (1) also hit the scoresheet.
