Six Locals Winners At SWOSSAA

The first day of the SWOSSAA track and field championships came and went at the Chatham-Kent Community Athletic Complex with six local winners standing atop the podium.

Chatham-Kent Secondary School’s Chloe Pugh was the only local athlete to win two events Wednesday. She captured the midget girls 400m race with a time of 1:00.90, and the 1500m in 5:01.13.

In the midget boys division, Wallaceburg’s Camden Fischer won the shot put event wiht a 13.16m throw.

At the Junior girls level, Chatham Christian’s Carolyn Prins was the triple jump champion, travelling 11.16m. On the boys side, Alec McGregor from John McGregor won the triple jump event with a distance of 12.79m.

Finally, at the senior level, Flex Marchand of Chatham-Kent Secondary School won the senior boys 110m hurdles event with a time of 15.47s, while Chatham Christian’s Amy Koomans was the senior girls high jump champion, making her 1.60m attempt.

SWOSSAA track and field concludes Thursday in Windsor, with the top five in each event advancing to the OFSAA West Regional meet May 27-28.
