Track and Field Athletes Advance To OFSAA
The top four competitors from each division advanced to OFSAA.
Friday, Chatham Christian’s Carolyn Prins won the junior girls triple jump with a distance of 11.60, and finished second in the long jump, leaping 5.35m.
Wallaceburg’s Camden Fischer also won on the opening day with a shot put throw of 13.45 in the midget boys division.
Payton Sabourin of Chatham-Kent Secondary School was second in the 400m midget girls race crossing the line in 1:00.88.
Finishing third on the opening day, were Chatham-Kent Secondary School runners Chloe Pugh (midget girls 1500m, 5:03.12) and Delainey Johnson (Junior girls 1500m, 4:51.89). Alec McGregor of John McGregor was third in the junior boys triple jump with a 13.13m jump. Finally, Pierce Johnson of CKSS threw 54.38m to finish third in the senior boys javelin.
Also qualifying was CKSS’ Jana Kucera who was fourth in the senior girls javelin with a throw of 37.77m. In the final event of day one, the Chatham-Kent Secondary School 4x100m relay team of Taryn Dudley, Alison Stephens, Jessica Conrod, and Payton Sabourin finished 4th with a time of 52.80s.
On day two, a trio of local athletes won top spot at the OFSAA West Regionals.
On the track, CKSS’ Felix Marchand ran a 56.01s 400m senior boys hurdles to take first. In field events, Chatham-Kent Secondary School’s Alison Stephens qualified yet again, finishing first with a throw of 28.73m in the midget girls discuss event. Finally, Morgan Desjardins of Pain Court throw 12.17m in the senior girls shot put, winning the event.
Desjardins also took a second place finish in the senior girls discus, throwing 38.28m.
Also with a second place finish was Chatham Christian’s Adeleene Thompson who completed a 1.50m attempt in the Junior girls high jump.
Finally, four Chatham-Kent Secondary School athletes rounded out the OFSAA qualifiers in Ally Oulds (3rd, 400m senior girls hurdles, 1:05.00), Chloe Pugh (3rd, 800m midget girls, 2:23.37), Marandee Hunter (4th, midget girls javelin, 28.81m), and Erin Young (4th, senior girls long jump, 5.34m).
OFSAA track and field will take place June 2-4 in Windsor, Ontario.
