Diamonds Slay Giants To Win Home Tournament

The Chatham Diamonds Major Bantam baseball team slayed the Corunna Giants 12-8 in the championship game of the Chatham Diamonds Tournament this weekend.

Corunna took a early 1-0 lead in the top of the 1st inning, but Chatham answered back with a 6 run bottom of the 1st. The Giants scored 2 more in the 3rd and held the Diamonds to a 6-3 lead until the Diamonds score another run in the 4th. In the bottom of the 5th the Diamonds jumped out to a 9-3 lead over the Giants and it looked as though it was smooth sailing to a Championship from there. The Giants fought back, on a couple Diamond errors the Giants score 5 runs in the top of the 5th to close the gap to a 9-8 lead for the Diamonds. The Diamonds wanted the win and score another 3 runs in the bottom of the 6th and held the Giants off for a 12-8 victory.
Daniel Bold, Garret Day and Ethan Boulley-Dekker all shared the hill. Josh Noah led the Diamonds bats with 3 hits, Day with 2 while Collin Bond, Sam Haight, Boulley-Dekker & Morgan Lucier each had one.

The Diamonds kick off the pool play on Friday night with a 12-6 win over the team from DKMB (Delaware, Komoka, Mt Brydges Minor Baseball). Daniel Boldt got the win going the complete (time limited) 5 inning game. Noah had 2 doubles, Boldt had 2 hits including a double. Bond, N Lucier, Haight, Boulley-Dekker & Day all had hits.

Game two, the Diamonds fell short 11-10 to the Brantford squad. Noah, Campbell and Steele all share the mound duties in the loss. the Diamonds had 10 hits in the game.
The final game of pool play, the boys faced the eager Mississauga North Tigers team. Garret Day got the save for the Diamonds 6-5 win as he closed out the last inning. Noah started on the mound and Bouleey-Dekker came in middle relief. Boldt had 2 hit while Day, Edwards, M Lucier, Campbell & N Lucier all had hits in the game.

Before making the finals the boys had to face and beat the Wyoming Wranglers in the semi-finals. The Diamonds hammered the Wranglers 16-6 to advance to the finals. Going into the 4th inning the Wranglers were leading the Diamonds 6-4 and the diamonds bats caught fire. The Diamonds scored 4 more runs in the bottom of the 4th and the another 8 in the 5th to end the game in a mercy. Noah and Boulley-Dekker shared the mound duties with Noah getting the win and Dekker the save. Nosh had 4 hits including 2 doubles, Campbell, Bond & Haight each had 2 hits, everyone else each had a hit including a triple off the bat of Boldt in the 1st inning.
