Lakers Sign Towering Dman Colton Coates

The Wallaceburg Lakers have announced their first signing under new ownership and staff, with the acquisition of towering defenseman Colton Coates.

The 20-year-old, 6’8″ Belle River, Ontario native comes to Wallaceburg from the Junior A Butte Cobras of the WSHL and the Junior A Kalkaska Rhinos of the USPHL.

“We’re excited to have Colton join us,” said new Lakers head coach Joe Bryne. “He’s going be a monster on the point for us and leaned on heavily for his known leadership abilities.”

“He’s the kind of player you want out there. Not only is he a force himself, but he makes everyone around him a few inches taller and a little more dangerous. He’s the kind of player every team in this league is looking to add to their rosters and we couldn’t be more delighted to have him on ours.”

Coates had 3 goals 11 assist for 14 points in 33 games, and added 106 penalty minutes.

The Lakers are planning to make more signing announcements shortly.
