Kent Bridge’s Luke Van Rycheghhem has been selected in the 2016 MLB Draft by the Arizona Diamondbacks.

The 6’3″ catcher was picked in the Major League Baseball draft in the 23rd round, 689th overall.

Expected to go slightly higher than he did, Van Rycheghem, a 1998 birth year, has been playing for the Ontario Blue Jays, and has spent time the past two years with Canada’s National Junior Team.

Scheduled to travel to Cuba this July with Canada’s Junior Team, Van Rycheghem is committed to play NCAA DI baseball for the Stetson University Hatters in the Atlantic Sun Conference next season.

The grade 12 UCC Chatham student was the 12th Canadian player selected in the multi-day draft, and the third by the Arizona Diamondbacks, who also picked fellow Canadian National Team catcher Andrew Yerzy of Toronto, and right handed pitcher Jake Polanciic of British Columbia.
