Pirates Sweep In Opening Weekend

The Port Lambton Pirates kicked off their first weekend of senior baseball action with a pair of wins, one on the road in Dresden, and at their home opener Sunday in Port Lambton.

Saturday, the shorthanded Pirates offense dominated as the Port Lambton Pirates outscored the Dresden Bulls 12-8.

The top of the first saw the Port Lambton Pirates take an early lead, 5-0. The Port Lambton Pirates attack began with a single from Smith. A single by Rich Leach then moved Smith from first to third. Craig Bezaire singled, bringing home Smith. The scoreboard lit up again for the Port Lambton Pirates when Leach scored on a fielder’s choice, Bezaire scored on an error, and Rose and Johnston scored on a two-run single by Dustin Howlett.

The Port Lambton Pirates pushed one run across in each of the second, third and fifth. In the second, the Port Lambton Pirates scored when Matt Johnston was hit by a pitch, scoring Craig Bezaire.

In the sixth Dresdens bats came alive hitting the gaps scoring a few walked batters tieing the game. But it was Dave Smith who pushed the Port Lambton Pirates ahead, in the seventh inning, and the lead lasted until the final out. Marcus Miskokomon walked to get on base in the seventh. He then went from second to third on a passed ball.

Smith racked up three RBIs on three hits for the Port Lambton Pirates.

Sunday, the Port Lambton Pirates took out Forest with help from Rich Leach, 3-1 at their 2016 Home Opener.

A day which honored the 2015 Port Lambton Rookie D OBA and Mosquito River league champions brought 100+ fans to Vandamme Park on a beautiful Sunday afternoon.

Rich Leach went 2-4 as the Port Lambton Pirates took home a 3-1 victory over Forest in seven innings at Vandamme Park on Sunday. Rich singled in the first and fifth innings.

Brian Reid and Terry Oulds looked sharp on the hill. Oulds held Forest hitless over 3 1/3 innings, allowed no earned runs, walked one and struck out seven.

Forest’s lone run of the ballgame came in the third inning on an RBI single..

The game was never in doubt after the fifth, as the Port Lambton Pirates scored two runs on a two-run single by Brett Miskokomon. Darrel Heyink came in to shut the door recording his first save.
