South Buxton Summary
Gregg Haskell Claims First Checkered Flag of the Season, Vanderiviere Takes Home Second Win.
Mother Nature decided to play nice Saturday night and finally allowed a night of racing at South Buxton Raceway. After a fierce battle between Nick Glassford #60 and 91 Austin Pickering, Jaime Beaulieu # 6 took his first feature win of the season during the Auto Tech Sales and Service Bomber Feature.
It was another fierce battle for first during the West Side Performance UMP Late Model feature. After starting 6th in the feature, Gregg Haskell of the RH21 car finally got his turn in the Winners Circle.
Battling Brad Authier #30 for the majority of the race , Haskell explains “I was patient with Brad, he got loose a couple of times , but the last thing I wanted to do was hit him” Patience paid off, RH21 was able to pass the 30 car with just a few laps remaining for his first feature win of the season.
It was a quick move which led the 177 of Rob Quick (driving for Randy Baulieau) to victory during the Tire Craft Mini Mods Feature. Quick was able to sneak by the 3M of Marshall Hercygers who was caught behind a lapped car and claim his checkered flag win. Quick who is a South Buxton veteran explained: “We have a good racing family in the back and great fans in the front, I’m glad to be back” Saturday nights Tire Craft Mini Mods race was sponsored by: Chatham Pro Shop, owned by Driver Darryl Lucio and his Father, Lucio presented the top three finishers with a trophy: Rob Quick -177, Larry Hart-7 and Ryan Phillips -6.
After a caution filled race, Mario Tonilio – 14, climbed out of his car in Victory Lane and claimed his checkered flag for winning the Schinkels Gourmet Meats UMP Modified Feature. Tonilio took the race lead in lap two and was able to maintain it even while battling with the 3C car of Louise Clements and 00 of Jim Dale to the finish line.
Eren Vanderiviere claimed his second Tire Craft Sports Stock Feature win of the season. Still subbing in for his injured brother, Vanderiviere was able to keep to the bottom of the track and race his way to Victory Lane.
