Van Rycheghem Turns Pro, Forgoes NCAA

Kent Bridge baseball player Luke Van Rycheghem has decided to forgo this NCAA and has signed a minor-league contract with the MLB’s Arizona Diamondbacks.

A 23rd round selection of the Diamondbacks earlier this June in the MLB Draft, Van Rycheghem was originally committed to play NCAA Division I baseball for Stetson University.

A catcher, who played for the Ontario Blue Jays, and also competes with Canada’s National Junior team, Van Rycheghem will be moved to first base within the Diamondbacks organization.

The 6’3″ UCC student is a natural field player, only being converted to catcher in recent seasons.

He will join one of Arizona’s minor-league programs immediately.
