Glassfords Sweep At South Buxton
Maintaining the lead position for all 25 laps in the Auto Tech Sales and Service Bombers Feature, Nick Glassford #60 took home the first of three checkered flags of the night for the Glassford family. A flat tire sent Kyle Gill #87 to the pits Saturday night, but after help from the O’Leary pit crew (Mini Mod – 28k) Gill was able to come back to the race to finish second. George Rock #32was the Auto Tech Sales and Service Bomber third place winner.
It was a fierce battle between Matt Sorrell# 3M and Dylan Wolters #177 during the Tire Craft Mini Mod feature race. Sorrell who was last year’s Mid-Season champion was filling in for his brother Marshall Hereygers. Dylan Wolters who was filling in for Randy Beaulieau proved that a drag racer has what it takes to land a spot in the winner’s circle. Collecting a second place win, Wolters thanked his friends, sponsors and family. Tragedy struck for # 27 Trevor Jones; a flat tire sent him off the track making him restart the race at the back. Hard driving allowed Jones to pass twenty cars for the third place Mid-Season championship win.
During the Tire Craft Sports Stock Feature, Brad Bloomfield #11 saw his chance when race leader Eren Vanderiviere # 67 going into turn two began to bobble. This gave Bloomfield his chance to overtake the leader and drive hard to collect his checkered flag. Bloomfield thanked the support of his close friends and family. Vanderiviere who was tired from such an exhausting race, thanked his friends, family and especially fans for making Saturday night racing possible. After coming in third, Rob Younge #48 thanked his fans, Track Promotors Garry and Sherry and especially thanked his Crew Chief, Travis Whittal for the quick adjustments he made to Younge’s car the night before.
Dale Glassford #60 was the Westside Performance Plus UMP Late Model Feature Winner. Glassford who led the race for 25 laps, told Track Announcer Jason Whittal, that he was prepared for a tough race. After struggling in turn one and two Glassford had to be sure to keep it smooth around the corners so not to give away his race lead. The RH21 – Gregg Haskell drove another hard race resulting in him getting second place. “Catching someone is one thing, passing them is another” Haskell said about trying to pass Dale. Haskell had one message to the crowd before leaving: “ To all the little kids out there watching us out here, this could be you” Maintaining his position within the top three, Jake Hooker #38 took the Mid Championship third place win.
Mark Glassford #90 sealed the deal during the Schinkels Gourmet Meats UMP Modified Feature win. Like his nephew and brother, Glassford took home a first place Mid Championship win Saturday night giving the family a sweep of feature wins. “It was a lot of fun, I was giving her everything I got” Glassford said. Not having won a feature since 2007, Glassford couldn’t have been happier while being surrounded by his excited family and friends. After starting last in the Feature, Clayton Smith #313 was able to get by Louis Clements #3C for a second place feature win. Clements was the features leader for 24/25 laps Saturday night. After a little contact in turn 2 and some steering issues, Clements wasn’t sure if he would finish the race. “We’ve been knocking on that door (first place) and we can’t seem to open it” Clements said. Clements thanked all of his crew members for their help week in and week out on the car.
