Several local throwers will be at track and field championship competitions this month after strong performances earlier this summer.

Lee Kucera (javelin) and Morgan Desjardins (ESPC, shot put and discus) have been selected to Team Ontario for the Espoir Championships in Moncton, New Brunswick on August 6-7. With next year as a Canada Summer Games year, both Kucera and Desjardins are eligible to make that competition, making this event an excellent opportunity for both.

Alison Stephens (CKSS) and Anthony Atkinson (JMSS) have both qualified for the Royal Canadian Legion Youth National Championships in Ste. Therese, Quebec on August 5-7. Stephens is ranked in the top eight in both events while Atkinson is in medal contention in shot put and should be in the top eight for both discus and hammer.

In late July, Stephens and Atkinson competed at the Athletics Ontario Provincial Championships in Windsor. Stephens won midget girls shot put and discus, setting new personal bests in both. Atkinson was third in shot put and hammer (new personal best) and was fifth in discus.
