Wallaceburg Picks Up Four Zone Titles
The Wallaceburg Peewee’s, Bantam’s, and both boys and girls Intermediate teams captured the Ontario Lacrosse Associations’ Zone 7 Championship this past weekend.
The game was 1-0 for Wallaceburg going into the third period. But as the period wore on, the Griffins had an offensive explosion scoring 6 goals in the third.
Morningstar Wanderingspirit found twine twice, and added an assist. Shkuhnodin Shognosh-Myers also beat the goalie once and dished a helper. Allison McLean also added 2 assists in their 7-1 victory.
The girls now prepare for Provincial Championships in Whitby, Ontario. The girls will compete in the ‘A’ division, where they will play Gloucester, Clarington, and Orillia in Round Robin play.
The Intermediate Boys were also able to capture the Zone 7 title.
The Boys battled against the Windsor Warlocks in a highly anticipated match-up.
The boys came out on top 9-1 in an impressive display of offensive dominance, and shut down defense.
Mitch VanDamme scored 2 goals and added 2 assists. Anthony VanDevenne also found twin 1 with 2 dishes, and Josh Berkvens added 3 helpers.
The Boys will now also prepare for the Provincial Championships, as they will be competing in the ‘B’ division. The Grifins will play against Sudbury, Milton, and Arthur to open the round robin tournament.
