There are some nights when a hockey team has one line just clicking and when that happens it can make for a lot of trouble for the opposition. That was the case Thursday at the Blenheim arena.

The Blenheim Blades trio of Kier Cumming (three goals and an assist), Nick Delyzer (a goal and two assists) and Zach Horvath (three assists) put on a show picking up 10 points in the Blades 6-3 victory over the Amherstburg Integrity Admirals before 555 fans on Elementary School Night.

The win, the Blades third in their string of three sets of back-to-back games, gives the team a 3-1-2 record good enough for first place by three points in the Provincial Junior Hockey League Stobbs Division. They will be looking to make it 10 points when they host the Mooretown Flags Sunday at 7 p.m.

Sunday’s game was a fast paced, almost penalty free (each team picked up two minors) entertaining contest that took just an hour and 55 minutes to complete.

Drew Marlatt, with his second goal of the season, gave the Blades a 1-0 lead with just 6:54 gone in the first period with Brayden Hopkins and Dustin Maines setting up the play.

Kasey Basile got that one back for the Admirals at 14:22, and Zack Yott made it 2-1 Amherstburg at 10:50 of the second frame.

Then the line of Cumming, Delyzer and Horvath went to work to put the Blades up 4-2 by 5:35 of the third period.

First Cumming scored his second of the year at 17:06 of the middle 20 minutes with Horvath and Nate Broek assisting, and then added his third at 2:20 of the third period with assists going to Horvath and Delyzer to put the Blades ahead 3-2.

Delyzer’s fifth goal at 5:35 of the third period made it 4-2, with helpers going to Horvath and Cumming, before Curtis Prymack cut the lead to 4-3 at 9:42.

Hopkins then netted the eventual winner with an unassisted tally at 14:32, his fourth of the season, and Cumming rounded out the scoring for the night with an empty net goal with 41 seconds to play. Delyzer and Broek assisted on that one.

The Blades outshot the Admirals 36-34 with Eric Stewardson picking up his second victory of the year.

BLADES BITS: The Blades were again playing without three veterans who are serving match penalties…Forward Matt Clark was sitting out his third of six games and defencemen Braeden Allore and Owen Bateman still have two games to go as they have four game suspensions…In the league scoring race Delyzer and Cumming are tied for second with nine points, with Hopkins next at eight, while Broek is seventh with six…The Blades Elementary School Night proved a huge success with students having no school Friday…Fans entering the arena were treated a new look provided to the team by RPM Graphics of Chatham…If you have a moment stop by the arena and check it out…This past Sunday members of Farm Credit Canada were on hand and gave out food bags to fans to be filled with non-perishable goods and returned when the Blades play Sunday against Mooretown…The food will then be turned over to the Blenheim Food Bank.
