The Chatham Maroons dropped their GOJHL preseason finale with several new faces in the lineup Thursday night at Memorial Arena.

The Maroons fell 4-1 to the visiting Sarnia Legionnaires, who were led by a pair of Chatham-Kent products, and others with C-K connections.

Chatham’s Austin Bentley opened the scoring for Sarnia, scoring on the powerplay. The goal was assisted by Sombra’s Trevor Bogeart.

The game winning marker came from another local player, Alec DeKoning of Wallaceburg, who scored early in the second frame.

Cale Markham replied for Chatham, with assists going to Blair Derynck and Tyler Beneteau, but it would not be enough to jumpstart the Maroons.

Jake Vince scored next for the Legionnaires, assisted by former Chatham-Kent Cyclones forward Jarret Marks.

Closing out the scoring was Bogeart, with assists from former Maroons and Wallaceburg Lakers defenseman Brett Storr, and Bentley.

Chatham opens their 2016-2017 GOJHL season September 10 in London against the Ancaster Avalanche as part of the GOJHL’s Showcase Weekend.
