Maroons Win In Comeback

The Chatham Maroons looked as though they would stay at the bottom of the GOJHL’s Western Conference standings, but the team showed some fight Wednesday night in London, using a third period comeback to steal a win from the London Nationals on the road.

After Nolan Vandenboorn opened the scoring for the Chatham Maroons in the first period, London scored a pair of goals, including from local product Kyle Dawson, who was the Great Lakes’ top rookie last season while playing for the Dresden Kings.

Trailing 2-1, Chatham bounced back quickly with Michael Douglas tying things up in the third.

Midway through the final frame with the man advantage, Alec Mackenzie scored to give the Maroons the 3-2 lead, which is how the game would end.

Brendan Johnston made 25 saves in the win. Dresden’s Trenton McGrail made 9 saves on 10 shots in London’s net, although Zach Weir took the loss for the Nationals.
