Petrolia Picks Up Second Franchise Win At Expense Of Kings
The Petrolia Flyers (2-2) have their first official winning streak, after a 7-4 comeback win over Dresden (2-2) on Thursday night, for their second consecutive victory, just four games into the franchise’s history.
Goaltenders saw a steady supply of rubber, with Petrolia’s Chaska Thiel stopping 50 of 54 shots and Dresden’s Cam MacAlpine making 37 saves on 43 shots.
Kirklin Dorman opened the scoring for the Flyers just 33 seconds into regulation, set up by Kole Keating, who finished with a game high 3 points including one goal and two assists.
Dresden fired back with three goals before the end of the first. Derek Shaw found th enet twice and Dillon Liberty capitalized on the power play for his fifth tally. Liberty leads the Stobbs division in scoring with 10 points.
The Kings secured what should have been a comfortable 4-1 lead when Macks Holmes scored 8:19 into the second from Liberty and Kevin Ritzer. Liberty and Ritzer both finished with two points.
Cue the unscripted come from behind victory. With the man advantage, Petrolia snuck back into this one when Jack Hackett scored the first of two Flyers’ power play goals at the 12:9 mark of the second. Dorman scored his second of the game just 18 seconds later, followed by Carter Campbell’s power play goal with two and a half minutes remaining in the period. In less than five minutes of hockey, a 4-1 goal was suddenly tied leading into the final 20 minutes.
The third period was all Petrolia with Jeremy VanDeven scoring the eventual game winner. Hunter Bryce added an unassisted goal and Keating hit the empty net to put the game on ice.
Dresden was 1 for 6 on the power play. Petrolia was 2 for 5.
