Raaymakers Released From NHL Tryout
Chatham’s Joseph Raaymakers has been released from his NHL tryout with the New York Rangers.
The Rangers announced their latest round of cuts last night. Raaymakers earned an invite after a strong showing at the Traverse City NHL Rookie Tournament and was the youngest of seven goaltenders in the Rangers camp.
Raaymakers is expected to resume time between the pipes as starting goaltender for the Soo Greyhounds of the OHL, where a big year could elevate him for a better look next year.
Last season Raaymakers produced a 3.61 goals against average and .891 save percentage in 28 games, utilized primarily as a back-up to Brandon Halverson.
Although he was on the radar, Raaymakers was passed up in June’s 2016 NHL Entry Draft
Still in camp at the NHL level are Chatham’s James McEwan, who continues to skate with the Pittsburgh Penguins, Travis Konecny (Philadelphia Flyers), Seth Griffith (Boston Bruins), and TJ Brodie (Calgary Flames).
