Signing Season In Full Swing
Junior hockey teams across Southwestern Ontario are sweeping up prospects in a mad flurry of activity to solidify rosters before the GOJHL and PJHL seasons begin this month.
At the Junior C level, the Wallaceburg Lakers landed top goaltending prospect Zach Lindley this week. Lindley, an alumni of the Windsor and Chatham-Kent ‘AAA’ program, was expected by most to be in Junior B this season.
He was joined by goaltender Trenton McGrail, who was taken off the market this week when he signed with the London Nationals Junior B team. McGrail, a product of Dresden, spent last season playing Major Midget ‘AAA’ for the London Jr. Knights. He’ll join fellow Dresden area product Kyle Dawson with the Nationals.
Another player with Dresden connections, Brady Hogg, who spent last season with the Dresden Kings, has signed with the Strathroy Rockets. Fellow King from last season Isaac McLean signed last month with the St. Thomas Stars.
The Blenheim Blades look poised for a big Junior C season in the newly reformed PJHL, after announcing the signing of 14 players, including veterans Brayden Hopkins, Ryan Gruszka, Zach Horvath, and Drew Marlatt.
The GOJHL season will kick off with the GOJHL showcase September 9 in London.
The PJHL Stubbs Division will launch the third week of September.
