Kings Drop Back To Back Games To Flyers
Offence hasn’t been idle in back-to-back games for the Petrolia Flyers and Dresden Jr Kings. Unfortunately, for Dresden, wins were. Petrolia followed up a 7-4 win on Thursday with an 8-5 victory on Friday night.
The Flyers dealt Kings goaltender Derion Ducedre a tough night, managing 8 goals on just 22 shots. Petrolia’s netminder Chaska Thiel was busy, turning away 35 of 40 to secure the Flyers’ third win of the year.
Petrolia got off to a quick start with three first period goals from Zach VanEyk, Kole Keating and Fraser Wilson. The leading scorer of the Stobbs Division and Kings captain Dillon Liberty got Dresden on the board with his sixth goal of the year with 27 seconds in the first.
Liberty’s seventh made it a one-goal affair 1:34 into the second. Kevin Ritzer tied it from Liberty and Macks Holmes six minutes later. Holmes had assisted on all three Dresden markers. The Flyers didn’t wait long, responding one minute and ten seconds later thanks to a powerplay goal from Curtis Helps. Macks Holmes grabbed his fourth point of the night for Dresden, this time a goal, assisted by Ritzer, to enter the second intermission deadlocked at 4.
Geoffrey VandenBoorn and Kole Keating entertained the 350 in attendance with a song, dance and some fisticuffs in the middle frame as well. Both will miss their next contest due to suspension.
Holmes completed a five-point night with his second goal of the game on the powerplay mid-way through the third, but the Flyers once again finished strong while the Kings deflated. Kirklin Dorman and Curtis Helps each scored their second of the game, Clay Dolbear added an unassisted goal and Jack Hackett found the empty net to finish the 8-5 win for Petrolia.
The Kings are on the road in Amherstburg for their next game on Sunday.
Dillon Liberty and Macks Holmes currently rank one and two in scoring within the Stobbs Division. Liberty’s 14 points (7G, 7A) ranks second in the entire PJHL. Holmes has 12 points (3G, 9A). Early on the year, Dresden is allowing 5.6 goals against per game.
