Offence Clicking For Jr Kings

The Dresden Jr. Kings lead the Stobbs Division of the Provincial Junior Hockey League in scoring early this year, netting 42 goals through the first 10 games of the season. Five of those goals came in a 5-3 win over the Wheatley Sharks on Wednesday night, two nights after a 7-2 loss to the same Sharks.

Wheatley got off to a promising start, up 2-0 in the first thanks to Cole Butler on the powerplay and an even strength goal from Evan Mastronard.

Dresden responded with goals from Kadin Ritchie, Kevin Ritzer and Brock Daugherty before the Sharks attacked with the man advantage for the second time, off the stick of Mitchell Prudence. After 40 minutes, Dresden and Wheatley were deadlocked at two.

The Kings’ Kadin Ritchie, a former Wallaceburg Laker, scored his second of the game on the powerplay mid-way through the third. Ritchie’s goal was his seventh of the season, behind captain Dillon Liberty, who scored on the empty net to secure Dresden their fourth win of the year.

The Kings have a 4-5-1 record, good enough to currently be tied with Essex for second in the Stobbs division. Essex has only played six games thus far, to Dresden’s ten.

Joel Sowinski stopped 28 of 31 for his second win of the year, after returning to the Kings earlier this month.

Dillon Liberty and Macks Holmes have been a huge part of the potent offence for Dresden early this year. Both added two points each to their stat sheet on Wednesday night. Liberty leads the division in scoring with 22 points, while Holmes sits second with 19.

Kevin Ritzer, Kadin Ritchie and Eric Carter each had two points for the Kings in the win.

Dresden is back in action on Friday night, hosting Essex.
