The Blenheim Blades have a new defenceman in John Montgomery.

Formerly of the Chatham Maroons and Dresden Kings, the 20-year-old Chatham-native’s strongest skills are his smooth skating, puck control and his tenacity as a rearguard.

Montgomery managed to pick up seven assists in 20 games so far this year.

He also played 47 games with the Maroons in the 2013-14 season, and had six assists.

The rest of his Junior career has been with the Kings where in 126 regular season games he scored 21 goals and added 45 assists for 66 points, while picking up 393 penalty minutes.

A powerplay specialist, Montgomery had 21 of his 66 points, almost a third, with his team having a man advantage. In 26 playoff games with the Kings he added another three goals and an assist for four points.
