Maroons To Host Domestic Violence Awareness Night
The Chatham Junior Maroons are pleased to announce that the Sunday, November 20th game against the Sarnia Legionnaires has been designated as “DOMESTIC VIOLENCE AWARENESS NIGHT”.
November is “Woman Abuse Prevention Month”, the goal is to raise awareness and inform the public of the consequences of domestic violence and the importance of standing up against it.
Domestic Violence affects everyone; children, youth, individuals, families, and the community. It has immediate and long-term consequences that can include serious mental and physical affects, the inability to function in society, financial turmoil and sometimes death.
The “Wrap Yourself in Courage” Campaign features Purple Scarfs, which will be sold to increase awareness of Domestic Violence against women.
Ending violence against women, like so many other challenges, will take a village, so to speak. Like it says on the scarf tags “the courage of one woman is not enough,” it will take all of us to be collectively courageous to make a difference. The hope is that by wrapping yourself in the warmth of a scarf is that you will also wrap yourself in the courage to help put an end to violence against women.
Purple is a symbol of courage, survival and honour, and has come to symbolize the fight to end woman abuse.
The CHATHAM KENT WOMEN’S CENTRE will have an information table at which “PURPLE SCARVES” will be available for $15.00.
A ceremonial puck drop will take place prior to the start of the game.
