Blenheim Blades netminder Eric Stewardson has been named the Provincial Junior Hockey League Stobbs Division player of the month for October.
Stewardson, who owns a 10-3-0 record and a Stobbs Division best 2.17 goals-against average, as well as a .931 division best save percentage, won seven of eight starts in October including three shutouts in a row.
The shutout streak actually was 12 periods plus. After giving up a goal to Mooretown’s Joe DeSena at 3:41 of the second period in a 3-2 win Oct. 2, Stewardson did not allow a goal in his next three games plus another 41 minutes and 27 seconds before Petrolia’s Kole Keating ended the shutout run in the third period of the Blades 4-3 overtime win in Petrolia Oct. 20.
Blades goalie coach Bino Pereira presented Stewardson’s award to the fourth- year netminder prior to Sunday’s game against the Lakeshore Canadiens.
