When the Blenheim Blades hit the ice for their two Provincial Junior Hockey League Stobbs Division games this weekend they will have a new face patrolling the blueline.
Kain Hopkins, 19, of Moraviantown, was signed by the Blades Thursday after playing last season, and up until now this year, with the Port Stanley Sailors of the PJHL’s Yeck Division.
Hopkins, 6’ 1” and 170 pounds, is currently a student at Fanshawe College in London. He is a cousin of Blades captain Brayden Hopkins.
In 60 games over two seasons with the Sailors, Hopkins scored seven goals and assisted on 29 others for 36 points and 143 minutes in penalties. A powerplay specialist, 13 of his 29 assists have come with his team holding a man advantage.
Kain also played 12 games with the Dresden Kings during the 2014-15 season.
Kain’s debut will be in Lakeshore Friday night when the Blades tangle with the Canadiens at 7 p.m.
Sunday the Wheatley Sharks come to town for a 7 p.m. game on ‘Skate With The Blades’ night.
