Liberty, Malott Lead Kings Over Lakers
Birthday boy Ryan Malott left some celebrating for the rink, opening the scoring with two goals in 28 seconds in a 7-2 Dresden win over Wallaceburg on Friday night.
Kings captain and Stobbs Division leading scorer Dillon Liberty wasn’t to be outdone, adding a hat trick, including two third period goals, to bring his goal total to 32 this season.
Dresden’s 16-year-old Eric Carter and Macks Holmes added goals for the Kings. Kevin Ritzer had three assists to bring his season points total to 48 – good enough for fifth in the Stobbs Division. Derek Shaw and Brendan Ritchie each added two helpers while Macks Holmes finished with one goal and an assist.
Trevor Waller capitalized on a breakaway opportunity for the Lakers in the second period and Garrett Wojcicki added a power play goal via the back-hand in the third. Wojcicki finished with a goal and an assist.
The win moves Dresden two points away from sixth place in the division, currently occupied by Wheatley. The Lakers fall to 1-27-1, currently on a 19-game losing streak dating back to October 26th.
The Kings and Lakers meet again on Wednesday, December 28th in Wallaceburg.
