Year in Review: August 2016
To say August was a slow month for sports in Chatham-Kent would be both true and untrue. We didn’t have a dozen ground breaking stories, but with the Olympic Games and Ontario Summer Games both in full swing, it was hard to say that the sports world took a nap. Here are a few of the top stories from sports during August 2016.
Jordan Durston Named Top Rookie – The exceptional year continued for Wallaceburg’s Jordan Durston. He was named the Major Series Lacrosse top rookie while playing for the Senior A Six Nations Chiefs.
Rio! – The entire world was enamored with another edition of the Summer Olympics, this time in Rio, Brazil. Locally, we got to watch Derek Drouin leap to success, but there were so many compelling stories, it wouldn’t fit in a local, or National story.
Gorski Golden – Wallaceburg’s Emma Gorski had a spectacular 2016. She led the CKSS Golden Hawks in net, helped her Chatham Outlaws win a Lower Lakes title, signed with the PWHL’s Barrie Sharks, and won gold at the Ontario Summer Games. She’ll continue to make news in 2017 as an athlete to watch. Walpole Island’s Kaitlyn Isaac won silver.
