Cyclones Undefeated At Festival of Lights

The 2005 Chatham-Kent Cyclones were undefeated and won gold this past weekend in the Niagara Falls Festival of Light’s Tournament.

The Cyclones defeated the Hamilton Huskies 2-1 in the final in a shootout.

To open the tournament, Chatham-Kent defeated the North Central Predators 2-0 with goals by Andrew Goulet and Declan Waddick, and Jake Vancoillie taking the shutout in net.

In a finals preview, the Cyclones beat the Hamilton Huskies 5-4 in their next match. Brayden Degelas had four points including two goals, while Waddick had a goal and an assist, and Goulet, and Colton Graham also scored. Liam Godwin was between the pipes.

Next up was the Niagara Falls Flyers who the Cyclones edged 3-2. Graham scored a pair, while DeGelas had the other.

Facing the Grey Bruce Highlanders in their final round robin game, the Chatham-Kent Cyclones came away with a 5-3 win. Waddick had 2 goals and an assist, while, DeGelas, Matt Rutledge, and David Brown also scored.

In the semi-final, Sam Warriner, Degelas, and Waddick scored to lead Chatham-Kent to a 3-2 win over the North Central Predators.

Facing Hamilton in the final, the Cyclones led 1-0 until less than a minute to go in the third when Hamilton pulled their goalie and tied the game. After a five minute overtime, the Cyclones won in a shootout with Matt Thomas and Matt Rutledge scoring, and Liam Godwin stopping all four shooters.
