Wallaceburg Sports Hall of Fame Saturday
The Wallaceburg Sports Hall of Fame will welcome its next class of inductees this Saturday night at the UAW Hall.
This year’s inductees include long-time lacrosse stand-out Josh McNaughton in the male athlete category, female athlete inductee; track star Jaime Gittens, Mark Childs in the Builder category and the G&B Sports 1983 OASA Oldtimer Slo-Pitch Champions in the Team Category.
Annual award winners include former WDSS football running back and current Queen’s University Golden Gael Jonah Pataki as as the Athlete of the Year; Ric Vancollie as the Coach of the Year, Torri Handsor and Casey McGee as co-winners of the Outstanding Achievement Award and Penny and Bob Bishop as the Builders of the Year.
The Ray Aarssen Hall of Fame Scholarship has been awarded to Brad Martin.
Hockey Canada’s Gillian Apps will be this year’s special guest speaker. Apps is a 3-time Olympic gold medallist, 2-time world champion and has five silver medals in her collection. Gillian is the grand-daughter of Hockey Hall of Famer Syl Apps and daughter of former NHL’er Syl Apps Jr. She currently competes for the Brampton Thunder in the Canadian Women’s Hockey League.
