Brad Park Headlines Dresden Sports Hall Of Fame
NHL Hall of Famer and Team Canada hero Brad Park headlines this year’s Dresden Sports Hall of Fame as a guest speaker.
Inducted into the Hall of Fame in 1988, Park is considered one of the best defencemen of his generation. A former New York Ranger, Boston Bruin and Detroit Red Wing, Brad was named to nine consecutive all-star teams. His elite status was overshadowed only by Bobby Orr, both of whom are credited with revolutionizing the blueline as ‘offensive’ defencemen.
Park had the chance to briefly play alongside Orr and under Don Cherry in Boston. Brad took over the leadership role of the Bruins following Bobby’s career-ending injury. Park was among the leaders for the B’s in their back-to-back Stanley Cup Finals appearances in 1977 and 78, where they lost to Montreal on both occasions.
Park retired following the 1985 season as a member of the Red Wings, who he briefly coached the following season. Brad retired as the leading defence scorer in New York Rangers history and the second leading scorer from the Bruins all-time blueline, behind only Bobby Orr. At the time of his retirement, Park had played the most seasons in NHL history for a player never missing the playoffs. He currently sits 13th all-time in defence scoring. This past January, during All-Star Weekend in Los Angeles, Park was part of the second group of players to be named one of the ‘100 Greatest NHL Players’ in history.
The annual dinner and induction ceremony takes place on Saturday, April 1st at the LKCS Auditorium. Dinner is catered by Burns’ Family Restaurant with doors open at 5 and dinner at 6pm. Tickets are only $40 for adults and $20 for kids. Tickets are available now from McKellar’s Flowers or by calling 683-4368.
