Lakers Name Rick Vancoillie New Head Coach
Wallaceburg’s Rick Vancoillie has been named the new head coach of the Lakers
Lakers officials made the announcement Thursday afternoon, with hopes that Vancoillie offers stability behind the bench for a Lakers team that has seen a rotating door of bench personnel over recent years.
Rick, from Wallaceburg, has 13 years of coaching experience, played his minor hockey in the Wallaceburg system and recently coached the Wallaceburg Midgets to an OMHA championship.
Lakers General Manager Ritch Kanally says Vancoillie is expected to be a huge asset to the organization.
The Lakers were a dismal 3-36-1 this past season and have not made the playoffs since 2011, finishing in last place each season since.
There is local unconfirmed speculation that the team is once again “for sale”, after last year’s purchase by the Byrne-Laus Hockey Corporation.
The Lakers hold their spring camp April 15-16 at the Walpole Island Sports Complex.
