Chatham-Kent products Grant Spence and Thomas Michaud won an Alliance Hockey Major Midget ‘AAA’ championship Saturday helping the Windsor Jr. Spitfires defeat the Brantford 99ers.

Playing in game 6 of the Alliance final series, Windsor beat Brantford 3-2, with Spence assisting on the winning goal, which was scored by linemate Preston Corp.

Spence, a Chatham product, who was a draft pick of the OHL’s Oshawa Generals last spring finished the playoffs with 3 goals and 10 points in 11 games. Michaud, from Charing Cross, had 3 goals and 7 points in 10 games. The two players had an identical 29 points in the regular season. Spence also saw time with the Jr. B Chatham Maroons, while Michaud played a handful of games for the Jr. C Dresden Kings.

Also skating with the Windsor Jr. Spitfires was Andrew Thoms. Thoms, a defenseman from Belle River, spent his Minor Midget ‘AAA’ campaign with the Chatham-Kent Cyclones.

Windsor will now advance to the Telus Cup Central Regionals (OHFs) held in Sudbury which runs from March 27 to April 2.

This is Windsor’s first Alliance Championship at the Midget Major level, snapping the London Jr. Knights seven year reign as Alliance Major Midget champions.
