Badminton Players Qualify For OFSAA

Several Chatham-Kent badminton players qualified for the 2017 OFSAA Senior badminton championships after strong performances at SWOSSAA.

Grade 9 student Olivia Lozon of UCC was the top finisher in the senior tournament, placing second in girls singles. ESPC’s Rachel Benn was third in girls singles, while Andrea Crow of ESPC was fourth. Crow will be replaced by CKSS’ Tess Scaman at OFSAA due to volleyball commitments.

In boys singles, Dhairya Shah of UCC finished third to qualify for OFSAA. UCC teammate Brett Graves also qualified in boys singles.

UCC’s Finn O’Brien and Andrew Thibeault were third in boys doubles.

In girls doubles, UCC’s Emma Demers and Grace Hiltz placed third, while JMSS’ Darby Barnard and Taylor Kewley qualified in fourth.

Finally, in mixed doubles, a pair of local teams qualified. UCC’s Jakob Wanger and Chelsea Hartford finished fourth to qualify, while CKSS’ Matt Stokes and Rhea VanHelden were given the additional entry.

UCC won the overall team title.

OFSAA will be held May 4-6 in Pain Court and Chatham.
