Red Devils Dominate In Season Opener
The Wallaceburg Red Devils ran the floor and ignited the offence in an opening night 20-2 victory over the London Blue Devils on Thursday night.
Brock Daugherty opened the scoring, and the floodgates, with the first goal of the Red Devils season, an unassisted tally at the 6:23 mark of the first.
Last year’s leading scorers, Evan Mathany and Corey Lucier led the charge for Wallaceburg. Lucier had two goals and five assists, while Mathany had three goals and three helpers. Carter Hastings matched Lucier’s seven points with a team-high four goals and three assists. That team-high four goals was matched by Tanner Cole, who added an assist for five points. Parker Gilhuly finished with five points, including two goals. Newcomer Vern Hill put two goals and two assists on the score sheet while Brendan Johnston found the twine once, assisting on three others. Riley Roe also scored for Wallaceburg.
The Red Devils kept London off the scoreboard until five minutes into the second period.
Goaltender Noble Jacobs stopped 20 of 22 shots.
The Red Devils outshot London 71-22. The Blue Devils finished last in the Far West last season with a record of 0-20.
Wallaceburg’s home opener is this Saturday, with the Elora Mohawks visiting Memorial Arena at 4pm.
