Red Devils Return April 20, Jamie Knight Back As Assistant
The Wallaceburg Red Devils Jr B lacrosse team return to action April 20th, opening their 20-game regular season on the road, meeting the London Blue Devils.
Wallaceburg’s home opener is slated for Saturday, April 22, as Memorial Arena plays host to the Elora Mohawks. Game time is 4pm.
A long-time local lacrosse supporter and coach, Wallaceburg’s Jamie Knight will return behind the Red Devils bench as an assistant coach.
“I’m really excited to be back with the Red Devils,” Knight told 99.1 CKXS. “Make no mistake about it, this is (head coach) Justin Durston’s team. I’m familiar with some of the kids, from coaching in their PeeWee days. My job is to help keep the kids in line and be a part of the support system here.”
Depth and injuries became an issue for the Red Devils last season, who went 8-12 in the regular season, while missing the playoffs.
“We certainly look much better as far as depth is concerned. Camp has been great and we’ve seen several players step up. We currently have seven kids fighting for two positions out of the D right door” added Knight.
The Red Devils may also be in acquisition mode, with some lines in the water for potential deals before the regular season opens on the 20th.
A return to the playoffs seems to be the ultimate goal and Knight added that the Red Devils sights are set on winning their division.
“Our goal is to be offensively minded. We have the firepower and we’re going to run. We’ll be running out of the D door. We hope to run teams off the floor.”
The fastest sport on two feet is ready for another run through the ‘Burg.
