The Wallaceburg Airhawks U19 Junior Women’s team competed in the Division One Provincial Basketball championships from this past weekend held at Wilfred Laurier University.

The Wallaceburg Airhawks went in ranked #4 and came home with the Bronze Medal over 3rd ranked Caledon.

To date, no other Airhawks team has ever won a medal in Division One.

In game one, Wallaceburg defeated 8th ranked Timmins 56-45. Jana Kucera led the scoring with 10-points, while Keahna Riley and Brett Fischer had 8, Sawyer Fischer 7, Logan Kucera 6, and Kaitlyn Quinlan, Jaimi Chauvin and Shae Denys all with 4.

Facing 5th ranked Tecumseh in their second game, the Wallaceburg Airhawks again came away with a double digit victory, winning 50-40. Shae Denys had 12-points, Brett Fischer 11, Keahna Riley 8, and Sawyer Fischer 7.

Against the top ranked team in the province, York, Wallaceburg suffered their only loss of the tournament, falling 73-27. Keahna Riley had 7-points, while Brett Fischer chipped in with 4, and Logan Kucera, Jaimi Chauvin, and Shae Denys all had 3.

In the bronze medal game against Caledon, Wallaceburg fought to a low scoring win, defeating Caledon 42-34 to win bronze. Keahna Riley paced the scoring with 15, Sawyer Fischer had 8, Jana Kucera 7, and Brett Fischer and Shae Denys both with 5.
