The Chatham-Kent Cougars football club is ready to kick off another season, with home openers beginning May 28.

The Cougars will return three divisions this season including Peewee, Bantam, and Junior Varsity. For the first time in several years, the Chatham-Kent Cougars will not field a Senior Varsity team.

Sarnia had originally planned to form a senior varsity team and accommodate Chatham-Kent athletes, but later withdrew their interest in a team at that level as well.

The Bantam home opener will take place May 28 at 12pm, followed by the Peewee home opener that same day at 3pm. Both games will take place at Chatham-Kent Secondary School.

The Junior Varsity team opens their home schedule Saturday June 3 at 7pm.

The season will also feature a major event according to Cougars president Selwyn Jordan, as the organization will host the OFC Day of Champs at the Peewee level.

“Our Peewee team will be holding the Ontario Football Conference Day of Champs. Huge news,” said Jordan. “Cougars will be organizing the event at our Chatham-Kent Secondary School facility. We are thrilled to be hosting.”

The OFC Peewee Day of Champs events will take place the weekend of July 15-16.
