First Dresden Races in the Books

Trotting mare Burning Memories ($4.20) and driver Garrett Rooney kicked off the 2017 meet at Dresden Raceway on Sunday afternoon with a wire-to-wire victory in the season opener.
Burning Memories was victorious in the first of the afternoon’s nine races, leading through panels of :30.4, 1:01.4 and 1:32 before stopping the clock in 2:00.4 with a one-length winning margin over Hoorayforthewinner. Tinas War was the best of the rest, with two breakers rounding out the field.
The five-year-old Southwind Lustre-Zorgwijk Delicate mare earned her first win of the year and sixth victory overall, pushing her bankroll to $46,936 for trainer/owner Gary Bryce of Plympton Wyoming, Ont.
Dresden’s defending driving champion Tyler Borth steered a pair of winners on the opening day card, including his own trainee, 52-time career winner Weskey. Lorne House and Andy Moore also had driving doubles.
