Red Devils Go For Sole Possession Of First
The Wallaceburg Red Devils Jr B lacrosse team is not good at sharing.
After a pair of tough-fought, nail-bite losses to provincial-wide powerhouses Owen Sound and Orangeville over the weekend, Wallaceburg is currently sharing first place in the Far West Division with the rival Windsor Clippers.
The Red Devils can gain sole possession of first place with a win over the London Blue Devils on Wallaceburg’s home floor Thursday night. Game time is 8 pm at Memorial Arena.
London once again finds themselves in the Far West basement, with a record of 1-11.
Wallaceburg has been sitting pretty in first place since their season opener, but slid into a two-way tie with Windsor over the weekend. The Red Devils fell to a record of 5-3-1 after nine games of play. The Clippers are 5-1-1 after just seven games, with two games in hand over the ‘Burg.
Now at the mid-way point of the season, first place in the Far West may be decided by the outcome of two head-to-head games on June 6 and June 13 between Wallaceburg and Windsor.
Cory Lucier leads the Red Devils in all offensive categories and is among the league’s leading scorers with 16 goals, 18 assists and 34 points. Wallaceburg’s Tanner Cole has been a league-wide phenom, with 13 goals, 12 points and 25 points as an “AP” (affiliated player). Carter Hastings (23), newcomer Vern Hill (22) and last year’s leading scorer Evan Mathany (20) round out the Red Devils’ top five scorers nearing the mid-way point. Netminder Noble Jacobs has been a stalwart between the pipes, starting all nine games and having the fifth best save percentage league-wide.
Still no e in Cory
Thanks
Thanks Amy. And apologies. I saw it listed with an “e” on the Red Devils roster, and assumed I was wrong all along through the hockey season spelling it properly. Thanks.
