Thompson, Mackenzie Make Commitment

Two Chatham Maroons forwards will suit up for the University of Wisconsin-Superier Yellowjackets next season.

Graduating forwards Austin Thompson and Alec MacKenzie have both committed to the NCAA Division III program for next season.

Thompson was the Chatham Maroons’ leading scorer in the regular season scoring 38 goals and 75 points in 43 games. A 2016-2017 GOJHL Western Conference First Team All-Star, the Leamington, Ontario product began his Junior career with the Junior C Wheatley Sharks, spending two seasons with the Sharks before joining Chatham in 2015. He served as an assistant captain for the Maroons this season.

MacKenzie, who was also an assistant captain for the Maroons, was in his first season with the Maroons, scoring 56 points in 46 games. The Ottawa, Ontario product also spent two seasons playing Junior A for the NOJHL’s Elliott Lake Wildcats, and split the previous season between the CCHL and EOJHL.

The Wisconsin-Superior Yellowjackets finished last season with an 8-19-2 record, playing in the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference.
