Wallaceburg’s DeKoning Takes Home Hardware
Sarnia Legionnaires centre Alec DeKoning came into his own in his second season in the GOJHL.
The 19-year-old Wallaceburg native took home some hardware at the Legionairres annual awards banquet this past weekend, for his role as the team’s leading scorer.
DeKoning more than doubled his production from his rookie year, with 16 goals and 28 assists (44 points) in 49 regular season games, evolving into a leader for Sarnia. Alec added a goal in six playoff games during the post-season.
DeKoning, a stand-out Lambton Jr Sting AAA product, is expected to continue to shoulder the load for Sarnia after the loss of over-age captain Brett Storr, Hunter Tyczynski and Justin VanBuskirk.
The Legionnaires finished fifth in the Western Conference with a record of 22-22-0-6 before being eliminated in the first round of the playoffs by Leamington.
